Have you ever wondered if your greasy pizza box is recyclable? If so, you’re not alone. Some recycling providers accept the ungreased top cover of the box, while others do not. In New York, pizza boxes are recyclable and are combined with paper and cardboard recycling. The Central Park Conservancy has launched a pilot program with a dedicated recycling bin just for pizza boxes in the East Pinetum area of the park. The conservancy reports removing around 100 pizza boxes daily. Traditional round trash and recycling bins can’t accommodate these boxes, attracting rodents. Park visitors are thrilled about the new initiative, as it offers a cleaner and easier way to dispose of the boxes. If successful, New Yorkers may see more pizza box recycling bins in the future.
